Milton Keynes University

Faculty of General Knowledge

BA (Hons) - General Knowledge

Course description

This three-year course will introduce the student to an overall knowledge of general knowledge. It will enable the student to pursue a career in accountancy or information technology, because let's face it what doesn't. It will also enable graduates to supplement their income in later life by winning pub quizzes. We also hope it will help the University to win on University Challenge

Qualifications required

'A' levels, grade D or above, in three completely unrelated subjects; or an overall education in the University of Life.

Work requirements

Students will be expected to spend every morning reading all the newspapers in the Students Union common room. Afternoons should either be spent reading in the library, surfing the 'net for "interesting facts" or playing the quiz machine in the Union bar. Evenings to be spent reciting lines from Monty Python sketches, or quizzing each other on the Liverpool line-up in the 1974 FA Cup Final.

Standard Textbooks

Any list we gave would be too restrictive, however the following are a bare minimum:

Examinations

For this subject, course work or continuous assessment would be a bit of a farce. Therefore all marks will be given equally on the following papers:

  3. People and Places
  4. Current Affairs
  5. Music
  6. Science and technology
  7. The Arts
  8. Sports and Pastimes
  9. A to Z

Each paper will be three hours.

Candidates will be expected to play their joker on one of these papers, before they have seen the questions.
