The Way of Expression of the Outer
We should stress that we are not a religion.
A religion is an organisation that attempts, by the regulation of its adherents' actions and even thoughts, to enable them to conform to the requirements of the deity that the religion believes itself to be worshipping.
The Way of Expression of the Outer is not a religion.
So what then are we? If, indeed we "are" anything. Perhaps, as the Way of Expression of the Outer we "is".
We believe that to express our values through the language of propositions would make those propositions - indeed, it would merely prove the valuelessness of the propositional language we employed to express those values. As Schoeberg(1) has said, "That which is expressed becomes the expressor". So allow us to express ourselves through that oldest and most sacred of thought-forms, story. This is the story of the Prime Visionary of the Way of Expression of the Outer, Dirk Stolkeim.
Boxes or Hell?
"It was the first day of the New Millennium - January 1, 2000. I was wandering through the streets of Central Milton Keynes, contemplating the things that had happened only a few hours before. Was the world changed? Was this the new Age we had hoped for? Above me the clouds hung heavy, dark, silent. Before me, a last straggling drunk was retching into the gutter in Saxon Gate. The same old world. I saw the boxes - the boxes that form the cityscape. But were they just boxes - square, mundane, box-like and boxy? Or were they - a vision of a modern, yet lost-in-the-post-modern, hell? Boxes or hell? The phrase recurred in my head. Then the vision took me. Life does not come from within. We are not a universe in ourselves. I saw that all - the street, the clouds, the drunk, myself - were emanations of the Outer. We are aliens from the Universe - indeed, the Universe itself is alienated. To seek the meaning of life, we must seek the Outer - wherever it is.
As I continued my walk along Saxon Gate, another drunk came up to me. "Where''s the Point?" he asked. A fair question. One that goes to the heart of all our individual Setzen-in-Leben. I shared this with him. He walked away from me, clutching what appeared to be a cinema ticket. As he accosted the next person walking down the street, I heard him asking the same question -"Where's the Point?". I hope, by now, he is closer to understanding where the Point of his life lies." Dirk gathered a small group of followers around him, initially meeting in a lock-up garage in Coffee Hall. As the realisation spread of the depths of his teaching, this group grew, until it was forced to expand into the garage next door.
We realised the importance of being free from the desires of the Inner, so that the Outer can grow within us. Dirk helped us to see that the distractions of the Inner - fame, wealth, family, money - merely take us within, where growth cannot be achieved. By freeing us from these distractions, he helped us depend solely on the Outer for our meaning. Some of us became completely free from these desires, and Dirk kindly allowed us to sleep in the lock-ups when we were evicted from our houses.
The 5 Truths of Expression of the Outer
We believe the following as being self-evidently true:
The Outer, the source of peace and light, lives Without.
The Inner, source of strife and disharmony, lives Within.
To escape from Within, and live Without, is the destiny of every Child of the Stars
To be a Child of the Stars is the calling to which all may aspire, but may only achieve through the teachings of the Way of the Outer
In death there is no sorrow, and in life no fear. Only the Outer - outside all, and beyond all, and without all.
The 6 Practices of Expression of the Outer
Look Beyond.
Be Beyond.
Go Beyond.
Look Without.
Be Without.
Go Without.
On Meditation
We in the Way of Expressing the Outer take meditation seriously. In order to approach Outerness, it is necessary that one's own Self is totally emptied - minds, feelings, pockets. Only when we are truly "travelling light" can we approach the Edge.
Recent History
In 2001, Dirk Stolkeim disappeared mysteriously from this mortal plane. He has no doubt by now achieved Beyondness. We, however, continue to seek the contentment that we know is there, and which he pointed Out to. Through self-negation and meditation, we attempt to bring our world closer to Outerness. Each time we meet, we become slightly more outside. Our little group, now funded by those siblings that have still not given up their Inner desires totally, now meets in a shop in Fishermead on Thursday evenings. Will you join us? Will you learn to give up your longings for the Inner, and - through that - make yourself free?
Masters of the Outer
In an sense, there are no masters of the Outer - it exists and transcends all. However, the following are those that have most internalised the Outer, and are accorded the respect of Master. Masters are given with their date of Election, and of Beyondness Achievement.
Dirk Stolkheim (2000 - BA 2001)
Drayton Parslow (2002)
Finbar Inkelstein (2003)
Husborne Crawley (2004) - current Master of Outerness
Remember we are not a religion, and we do not expect all our friends to give away all their money for the good of the movement.
